Frequently Asked Questions

Although hand skills require practical teaching, most of restorative dentistry is knowing ‘what’ to do and ‘when’ to do it. This can be taught in a remote online setting, in preparation for live courses. This course does not remove the need for hands-on learning, but gets your theory and knowledge up to a level so that you can hit the ground running when you do decide to take practical courses.

Aside from being one of the few online versions that you can take from the comfort of your home, it can be completed at your own pace. Some will like to learn one module at a time, and others prefer an intensive approach.

Our online course is more cost-effective than the year-long restorative courses, and this is due to them being delivered online and not including a practical element.

The course is 10 modules, each taking approximately one-two hours to complete, including the prerequisite reading. Access to the course is indefinite!

Yes! The restorative foundation online course is the most comprehensive online course, and is recommended instead of the shorter focused courses.

Yes, for Restorative Foundation there is a dedicated private Facebook group for sharing cases and gaining advice. We can answer questions you have as well as assist with treatment planning.

Certain sub-modules are modified and re-filmed periodically, to provide the most accurate information to date.

Whilst it is important to allow your base qualification to run its course, you will certainly benefit from restorative foundation in the methods that are not typically taught at dental schools. Student and military discounts are available, just send us your student ID or MOD90 card.

Yes! The confusion around occlusion is due to lack of understand at the first instance. Once you have the understanding, we describe a step-by-step approach to managing most occlusal situations seen in general practice. Practical teaching in occlusion is challenging, due to the need of seeing live cases treated chairside. This online course includes live demos, mitigating the need for live courses.

If you are referring to the American occlusal camps, I do not subscribe to one in particular, however, the majority support the notion of centric relation based schemes.

I am in favour of physiologically and orthopaedically stable joint positions around a biomechanically low risk occlusal pattern. I do not support neuromuscular schemes of occlusion.

My approach to occlusion is the sum of the clinicians who taught me. These are Frank Spear, Lane Ochi, Albert Solnit, Peter Dawson, Bjorn Dahl, Michael Wise, Lee Anne Brady and John Kois. I have since developed a contemporary approach to Dahl appliances and a repeatable step-by-step approach to handling anterior/posterior restorations. My authority on occlusion is a testament to the above teachers’ credibility within dentistry, and I have distilled their teachings into this course.

By all means you can and should! However, these international occlusion courses can take place over several years, and I propose you reconsider this after taking a shorter occlusion course, such as this one.

Dental schools have a challenging task to take young adults to safe clinicians within five years. Some topics are simply not within the scope of handling primary disease. Implant restoration, occlusion and photography seem to be those subjects.

No one can guarantee you are ready for anything in dentistry. But, this course will give you the tools, resources and knowledge to approach implants with a safety net and confidence to attempt your first restoration.

You will be supported by having direct contact to the course leader and the associated dental clinic. Implants are a rapidly developing field, and by being partnered with like-minded, supportive clinics will assist you with any implant-restorative situation you come across.

Yes, but you will need to notify them. You and your implant surgeon will hold vicarious responsibly for each other’s work, so select carefully.

Having a camera is great, but unfortunately many are not able to make the most of it or understand photography. A short course like this will clarify one of the basic skills we need coming out of dental school or taking further restorative dental training.

Almost all specialist medical/dental information is now accessible online, you are correct. This can’t be found online and this is where an online or practical photography course sets itself apart.

Ideally, this course is suited to those with cameras, so the lessons can be implemented at the same time. Much of practical photography will be with you and your live patients, not in practical courses. We propose you try all the methods taught within the course to accelerate your learning.

You can, and camera phones are becoming more sophisticated year on year. That being said, there are limitations with consistency as the phone software changes the shooting parameters to show the best looking image, this is not what we require for clinical photos. Secondly, the
